Sabhira’s Daughter #5

“WHAT?” exclaimed Udaran, not sure she had understood Blue, “Are you joking?”

Kitty smiled, perhaps a bit envious, “No Udie – she’s serious.”

“But, why me Blue?” asked Udie, “Why Milahme and I?”

Blue answered, “Well, Sabhira and Arabhi died for that gold in a way.  Since they have no relatives anywhere around here, it seems only fair to me that their loved ones should get it.”

image
Udaran pondered this for a minute. “But,” she realized, “Sabhira DOES have a relative in Skyrim.”

The other three suddenly recalled what Udaran had said last night, “Her daughter!”

“Well, go ahead and give Milahme her half,” Udaran said to Blue, “But I’ve got a quest to complete and now I have the means to do so. I’m going to find her!”

“Not without me!” Muz-Ra interjected.

Blue stammered, looking away shamefully, “I…  I’m sorry Udaran, but I can’t go with you.  I’d like to, but…”

image
“Oh, Blue.  You’ve done enough!” Udaran responded sympathetically, “The wilds of Skyrim are no place for you.”

Muz-Ra considered, “We’ll need to take some for traveling money, but the rest should stay here until we return.  We’d actually be safer if we don’t carry much with us.”

“Would you mind if I came too?” Kitty broke in.

“Kitty, why?  You practically just got here,” said Udaran, puzzled.

image
“Besides, really Kitty, I don’t think you understand what it’s like out there.  There’s a pretty good chance you could get KILLED,” Muz-Ra cautioned

Kitty protested, “Oh, I know more than you might think Red. Besides, I can help!”

“How?” asked both Muz-Ra and Udaran together.

“HEY! I’m useful! I can run fast.  And slinking.  I’m VERY good at slinking,” boasted the young Khajiit.

“A theif perhaps?” muzed Muz-Ra.

image
“Well, I don’t know about stealing,” cautioned Kitty, “You know I think that’s just wrong.  But, maybe as a scout or something?”

The older Khajiit looked directly at Kitty and asked, “I don’t know Kitty.  Do you really want to risk your life for someone you don’t even know?”

“No,” Kitty responded flatly, “but you guys are the only friends I have. Not for her, but for you.”

“Hey, I just remembered something!” Muz-Ra interrupted, “Katherine left some clothes she said were… special. Supposed to be some sort of invisibility cloak she said.  If you really are stealthy, and if it really works…”

“Oh, I really CAN be when I want to.  You don’t think I chose these all-black clothes for nothing do you?”

image

Udaran relented, “OK.  I guess, if you really want to, you can come too.  Besides I can’t exactly say no – you’re an adult and responsible for yourself.”

“Yes, I am.  And I’m going.  But I’m intrigued by this outfit.  What did she tell you about it Red?”

“I’m sorry, but I forgot the details.  I didn’t really think much about it at the time.  She just said she wouldn’t be needing it anymore and left it here.  But I seem to recall it had some problem… no, I can’t remember what it was,” Muz-Ra concluded.

“Mind if I check it out?” asked Kitty.

The Argonian stood up, “Sure! Blue, why don’t you go tell Milahme about her gold.  If I know her, she’ll take the money and run and never look back.  Kitty, you come with me.  I’m not sure if it will fit, but I think it’s pretty stretchy.”

image

A few minutes later Kitty and Muz-Ra were standing near Muz-Ra’s locker…
“THIS is an invisibility cloak?” Kitty protested, “If I wear this I’ll be seen for miles!  Bhusaran’s white outfit is more stealthy than this!”

Muz-Ra agreed, “That’s what I thought actually.  I suppose if it’s magical, it probably has a soul gem or something though.  The clasp maybe?”

image
Kitty tried pressing the clasp. “Nothing.” she stated, disappointed.

“Well how should I know?  She just GAVE it to me.  It’s not like invisibility would help when modelling for a men’s magazine!” the Argonian bickered.

image
“I’ll try with the hood up…” Kitty said, dubiously.

“Nothing,” she repeated.

“Um… Kitty…” Muz-Ra interjected.

“You got any other great ideas?” asked Kitty sarcastically.

“Kitty…  I can’t see you.” – Muz-Ra

“…so I’m looking for your advice on how to handle this,” Blue concluded to H, the owner of the Tails magazines, and Bhusaran who stood for him in all things related to the local law and the Jarl.

H looked to Bhusaran, who indicated no particular opinion on the matter.

“Of course,” H responsed, “any found money from a crime should be turned over to the Jarl.”

“Of course…  if it’s definitely from Dahleena,” agreed Bhusaran, “You’re sure it’s her stash?”

“Pretty sure.  I mean, who else would have left it?” Blue replied.

Bhusaran perked up, “So you’re NOT sure it’s hers?  Is that what you’re saying?”

image
“I don’t…  I mean, I THINK…” Blue stammered.

“What she’s saying is NO, she found some gold, but she doesn’t know who left it there,” Muz-Ra interjected, understanding Bhusaran’s unvoiced implication.

“That’s what I THOUGHT she said,” Bhusaran smiled.

“Oh… OH!  I get it!” Blue burst out, turning to Muz-Ra

“Get what?” said H with a frown, “There’s nothing to get.  Is there?”

“NO!” declared Blue, Muz-Ran and Kitty simultaneously.

image
“So, congratulations on your newfound wealth Blue.  What do you think you’ll do with it?” H asked innocently.

Blue took a moment to consider, then replied hesitantly, “Well, I’d like to help out those who were most hurt by the murders I think.”

“That’s very kind of you Blue.” smiled Bhusaran, genuinely moved by Blue’s charity.

Blue went on, “Yes… Arabhi and Sabhira are gone, but I’d like to give it to Milahme and Udaran I think,” confirmed Blue.

image
Kitty interjected for her friend, “You should at least keep a little for yourself Blue.  You did find it after all.”

“I… I don’t really want any.  It seems somehow wrong,” Blue protested.

“Well, why don’t you go tell them,” suggested Bhusaran, “However, I do advise you don’t tell anyone else.”

“Yes, that amount of gold is troublesome.  Best keep this quiet,” agreed H.

“I will.  Thanks H, Bhusaran.  You’re always great advisors,” Blue said, almost bowing.

image
H proposed, “After that, I advise you to find Ubergard and have her escort you to retrieve it and we’ll keep it safe in our vault.”

“That’s totally up to you of course, Blue.  But you need to keep it safe.  We can help you with that – if you trust us,” added Bhusaran

“Of course I do!”, Blue insisted, “And thanks again!”
The three turned to go.

image
Kitty sighed, “Well, that’s that.  I guess it’s the right thing to do though.”

Muz-Ra proclaimed, “It’s the PERFECT thing to do.  Good idea Blue, giving it to Milahme and Udaran.”

“Yeah.  I’m feeling better about it already.  I guess we’d better go tell them.”

Kitty sighed again, imagining other scenarios but accepting that they just weren’t going to happen.

image
Quietly to H, Bhusaran asked, “Are you really going to let them keep it all?”

“Bhusaran, don’t you know me better by now? I may be sharp when dealing with our suppliers, distributors or the authorities, but the girls are our bread and butter. I’d never do anything to cheat them.  We make plenty on the Tails. Far better to keep the girls happy,” responsed H, somewhat suprised that Bhusaran would question his motives.

“Ok, but if the Jarl finds out, he’ll be furious,” observed Bhusaran

“Then it’s our job to make sure he doesn’t find out.”

“Red!   Red, wake up!  It’s important!” whispered Blue early in the morning the next day.

“Huh?  Oh… Hi Blue.  What’s up?” asked Muz-Ra groggily.

“I found something Red.  Something big,” fretted Blue, barely able to keep her voice down.

“Grmph…  What time is it?” mumbled Kitty from her bed.

Turning back towards Kitty, Blue replied, “Oh, about 7 in the morning, Kitty.”

“7 in the morning?  NOTHING important ever happens at 7 in the morning!” declared Kitty as she lay back down.

image

“Oh wake up you sleepyheads and listen!  I was out early this morning, picking some herbs outside the valley,” whispered Blue excitedly.

“At 7 in the morning?  What, do you never sleep?” asked Muz-Ra incredulously.

“Actually, not much, but that’s not important.  What IS important is that I was looking for these herbs that I use in my tea and I noticed something behind some rocks… something sparkly.  Turned out it was metal. It was the bands of a chest that had been hidden.” said Blue.

“And?  Did you open it?” asked Muz-Ra, coming to attention now.

“Yes… Red, Kitty… it’s full of gold!” whispered Blue.

image

“GOLD?” exclaimed Kitty, suddenly taking an interest.

“Yes.  I think it’s Dahleena’s stash,” Blue replied.

“Really?  She DID say she had some gold hidden around somewhere outside,” stated Muz-Ra, “How much Blue?”

“It’s almost full Red.  It’s a LOT of gold!  Red, I don’t know what to do.”

“Well, first don’t tell us any more.  Right now you’re the only one who knows where it is, and we should keep it that way till we decide what to do,” Muz-Ra suggested.

image

“We HAVE to tell H don’t we?” asked Kitty.

“That’s the proper thing to do, yes.  What do you think Blue?  It IS your find.  In Skyrim, posession is 9/10ths of ownership.  10/10ths really.  You can just keep it you know,” said Muz-Ra.

“I don’t WANT it Red.  That kind of thing is just trouble.  Especially in that amount.  As soon as someone knew I had it, I’d be in constant danger.  I’m happy here Red.  I don’t want anything to mess up my life here,” Blue responded, somewhat worried.

“Then we need to talk to H and Bhusaran.  Kitty, you’re the only other person that knows about this right now.  You OK with that?”

“Well, dammit, I’d love to be rich honestly.  But I guess Blue has a point.  Let’s see what H and Bhusaran have to say.  They’ve always been straight with us before.”

“Ok – but till we talk to them, don’t say anything to ANYONE,” stated Muz-Ra.

image

“You sure you don’t want to just keep it Blue?  If it’s too much, I’m SURE me and Red could help you out there!” asked Kitty hopefully.

“NO Kitty.   You haven’t been here long enough to understand.  It’s dangerous to have that much gold in one place!” stated Blue, flatly rejecting the idea.

image

“She’s right Kitty.  There are people around here that would slit your throat for a fraction of gold of that amount. Not IN the Chateau mind you, but word gets around,” observed Muz-Ra.

“Well… ok,” Kitty responded, “Just checking.”

image

“Um. Kitty, we’re going to go find H.  You wearing that?” asked Muz-Ra.

“Huh?  Oh.  I guess not.   Give me a second to change.” Kitty replied.

“Ok, but lets…” started Blue.

image

“Done!” interrupted Kitty.

“How DO you do that?” asked Muz-Ra, incredulously.

“What I want to know is how she gets into that at all, without a zipper!” added Blue.

“Well it’s a CATsuit you know.  It’s a kind of magic.  You wouldn’t understand. It’s a cat thing,” Kitty answered mysteriously.

Sabhira’s Daughter #2

“So, now that you’ve been here a few months Kitty, what do you think of H’s little enterprise here?” asked Udaran.

Kitty replied, “Red has really helped out a lot with learning how things work around here, H and Bhusaran are great to work for, it’s safe and all our needs are met.  For Skyrim it’s really sort of a paradise isn’t it?  I mean, with all the wierd and dangerous stuff going on outside, it’s pretty hard not to love it!”

“Sanctuary,” mused Muz-Ra

“What?” Kitty asked.

“It’s like a sanctuary from the outside world,” answered Muz-Ra, focusing on Kitty.

image
“I don’t think it can last though.  Between dragons, monsters and magic, someday something’s going to find it’s way in here and break the spell H has on this place,” Udaran remarked.

“Probably so, someday. But that could be a long way off.  For now at least, it’s great,” responded Muz-Ra, “What is it Kitty?  You look like something’s on your mind.”

“It’s just… well, in some ways it’s also kind of a prison isn’t it?” asked Kitty

Udaran looked puzzled. “How do you mean?  We’re all free to leave if we want to,” she pointed out.

image
“Oh, it’s not that it’s not a great environment H has created here,” Kitty postulated, “it’s just that we’re kind of stuck here.  We have all we need, so why venture out into the dangerous world outside?  But going without danger means living without adventure doesn’t it?”

Kitty left Muz-Ra and Udaran to pondered a moment before continuing, I mean, life here, it’s almost TOO perfect.  We do our photo shoots, we get paid, in between we lounge around.  But where’s LIFE in that?  We’re living a plush life, sure, but we don’t LEARN anything here.“

"Oh, I don’t know about that. Just last week I learned how to Stretch Languorously.  And Udaran excels in the Sexy Pout!” Muz-Ra responded with a smile.

image
Kitty admitted, “Silly Red.  Ok, on those terms, sure.  But one day we’re going to have to leave here and what then?  Do you know how to farm?  How to smith?  Anything USEFUL outside of here?” – Kitty

“I’d not go so far as to say the skills we learn here aren’t useful!  They just have very SPECIFIC uses,” countered Udaran.

“And then I have my bow,” added Muz-Ra.

Kitty gave in with, “Ok.  You’re right.  Maybe I’m thinking too hard on this.  I’m sorry.”

image
“No need for apologies Kitty. It’s good to think about the future Kitty.  I just think there are more possibilities here than you realize.” said Udaran

“Maybe so.  I’m afraid I sometimes doubt my…   Oh.  Hi On-Wanal,” said Kitty, interrupted by the sneaking newcomer.

“WHAT?  There’s no WAY you could have heard me!  Dammit Kitty, you’re the ONLY person in this whole damn place I’ve not managed to get a sweetroll out of.  And that INCLUDES Bhusaran!” On-Wanal responded.

“You move like an elephant.  Just give it up, you’re not getting my sweetroll.  EVER!” declared Kitty.

“Oh, I’ll get one alright.  And when I do, I’m going to eat it right in front of your face,” On-Wanal promised.

The tension between the two was palpable when Muz-Ra interrupted, “Calm down you two!”

image
“NO Red.  She’s a theif, and what’s worse, shes BAD at it!  I know you guys think it’s funny. Well I DON’T.” protested Kitty.

“Look Kitty, it’s my thing.  It’s what I do.  I steal sweetrolls.  Why do you have to be so rude about it?” asked On-Wanal, trying to be reasonable.

Kitty retorted, “Because you SUCK at it!  If anything, you should be happy I’m not such an easy mark.  I’m helping you improve your craft. Which sorely needs it.”

“Fuck you Kitty.  I’m outta here,” replied On-Wanal as she turned indignantly.

image
Some time passed silently as On-Wanal left the room.

“You really didn’t need to be so harsh Kitty.  She takes pride in that you know.  Maybe you should just let her take one once,” ventured Muz-Ra.

“WHY?  Why should I?  Is theivery something to be admired around here?” shot back Kitty angrily.

“CALM DOWN Kitty!  You’re getting all worked up over nothing,” added Udaran.

“Hmph… Oh… I guess you’re right,” admitted Kitty, “She just pushes all the wrong buttons with me.”

“You’re just tired I think. At least I am. I’m going to bed,” Udaran said, switching the subject.

image
“Can we sleep together in the guard’s quarters again Red?  It’s just too bright out here for me.” asked Kitty of the Argonian, suddenly demure.

“Sure!  Goodnight Udaran,” said Muz-Ra, turning back to the older Khajiit.

“Goodnight Red.  Goodnight Kitty,” said Udaran.

Kitty replied, “Goodnight Udie.  And I’m sorry for making a scene.”

“No problem Kitty.  Just try and lighten up on On-Wanal.”

“Oh… kay,” stammered Kitty, not at all convinced she could do so.

image
“I suppose you’re going to sleep in that little nightie thing again?” asked Muz-Ra.

“Sure am!” replied Kitty, “Why, does it bother you?”

“No, but it’s a good thing I’m damned straight or you’d have gotten a rude awakening long ago!”

“That’s what I’m here for Red, to tempt your sexuality!” responded Kitty sarcastically.

“Most of us just sleep in our outfits you know.  Or nothing.”

“I know.  But this is something I brought with me and it comforts me at night.  Long ago it used to fit better.”

“Yeah, I guess I can understand that.  Well, good night Kitty.  I’m going to be out like a light.”

“Goodnight Red.”
